The “Harghita” Szeckler folklore ensemble gave a performance, on 28 October, at West Lake Expo, organized by the local authorities of Hangzhou city.
Over 300 persons that watched the performance were delighted by the folk dances, songs and costumes. The Mayor of Hangzhou, Shao Zhanwei, insisted on personally congratulating the ensemble for their brilliant performance.
“Unlike at previous editions, at the 12th West Lake Expo we wanted to emphasize the cultural component. By such interactions we wish to make known the traditions of Romania,” said Shao Zhanwei, the Mayor of Hangzhou.
The artists involved in the cultural events at the EXPO 2010 Romanian Pavilion are present for the second time in Hangzhou, the “Dorna Dorului” Folklore Ensemble having been invited in September to perform at the “Moon Festival.”
West Lake Expo, now at its 12th edition, is China’s oldest exposition, the first exhibition of this kind having been held in 1929.
This year’s exposition comprises 30 mini exhibitions by industries, several economic forums and specialized conferences.
Moreover, the visitors could take part in various festivals, shows and competitions, all of them staged in connection with the 12th West Lake Expo.
The city of Hangzhou hosted, in 2006, the first world exposition devoted to leisure, tourism and entertainment, a six-month event between 22 April and 22 October. The exposition is considered one of the most important international events to be held in the People’s Republic of China in the first decade of the 21st century, alongside the Beijing Olympic Games (2008) and World Expo Shanghai.
The second edition of that world exposition will take place next year, again in the city of Hangzhou.
