New record number of visitors at EXPO 2010 Shanghai last weekend
With such a large number of visitors at EXPO 2010 on Saturday 16 October, a new record was set for the 170 days since the World Exhibition had opened, as well as in the history of world exhibitions. The total number of visitors so far is 65,804,800.
The number of visitors on 16 October exceeded the record established at Expo Osaka in 1970 when 835,832 visitors were recorded on just one day.
Last weekend, the Romanian Pavilion, too, was visited by a large number of people – over 75,000, adding to a total of 4,700,000 since the Exhibition opened.
“The large crowds at the Greenopolis Pavilion this weekend confirm the visitors are keen to discover Romania and learn things about the Romanian way of life, about our culture and traditions. We hope by the end of the exhibition we will have attained all the promotion goals we set out to achieve,” said Ferdinand Nagy, Commissioner General of Romania’s Exhibition in Shanghai.
Expo Shanghai, held under the catch phrase “Better City, Better Life,” is the biggest world exposition. Romania is participating with its own pavilion called Greenopolis and has an exhibition area of 2,000 square meters.
With 14 days left until Expo Shanghai closes, the organizers have announced a large number of visitors also for the remaining two weeks, the grand total being estimated at 70 million.
A similar peak in the visitor flow occurred in late September and early October (30 September – 7 October), during the holiday occasioned by the National Day of the People’s Republic of China.
Of the over 200 participants (countries and international organizations) in Expo Shanghai 2010, 47 erected their own pavilions, 20 of these belonging to European participants.
